Celebration of Republic Nepal
1 June 2008, Ferndale House, Mt. Albert, Auckland.
The Society organised a celebration of the declaration of Federal Republic of
Nepal (28 May 2008) at the Society premise, Ferndale House, Mt. Albert,
Auckland. The celebration was participated by Nepalis and Kiwis with lighting
candles.
President of the Society Manohar Shrestha welcomed the participants to
celebrate the historical event. On the occasion, Vice-president Pitambar Sharma
Dahal, Secretary Dr. Giri Raj Kattel, NZNS members Roshani Shrestha Kattel,
Pashupati Karmacharya, Baikuntha Aryal, Pradip Lohani and Dr. Mahendra Giri
highlighted the achievements made by Nepali people and wished for a success. In
addition, President of New Zealand Nepal Association, Shreedhar Basnyat, NZNS
members Jocelyn Hinton and Baburaja Maharjan, President of Non-Resident Nepali
Association expressed their opinion with greetings.
Daily newspaper published from Auckland, the New Zealand Herald (2 June 2008)
noted that “It's Queen's Birthday - but Auckland's Nepalese community gathered
to celebrate the end of their monarchy.”

The Society also forwarded a message with greetings to the Honourable Prime
Minister of Nepal and the Embassy of Nepal in Canberra, Australia.

On behalf of the Society, I would like to congratulate you, all the parties and
Nepali people for Nepal being a democratic republic nation. It is the result of
agony, struggle, sacrifice and commitment of Nepali people.
This Society is a non-profit organisation with multicultural and multi-ethnic
representation of various ethnic people of New Zealand and Nepal. The Society
is patronage by Lady June Hillary (formerly by Sir Edmund Hillary). We commit
to participate and contribute in the social, economic and environmental
development of Nepal.
We sincerely wish for a successful Constituent Assembly to prepare the
Constitution of Nepal meeting the aspiration of all Nepalis, both living in
Nepal and abroad.
Once again thank you for your tireless effort to build new Nepal.
