The "Hand
over" ceremony was held at 1pm at the Society office at Ferndale
House 830 New North Road. The programme started with the outgoing secretary
Mr Laxman Paudel initiating the meeting. The outgoing president Mr. Mahendra Giri
then welcomed and congratulated the new executive committee.
He wished them success in achieving goals to strengthen Nepali Society.
Mr Mahendra Giri then handed over keys to newly elected President Mrs Shanta Bhattu.
The outgoing Treasurer Mr Dipendra KC then presential a financial report,
summarising the societies financial situation and handed over financial document of the last term
to Newly elected Treasurer Mrs Achala Adhikary. This was followed by a brief interaction
between the outgoing committe, the newly elected committee and the general members
of the society present at the occassion.

The election committee comprising of Dr. Ranjan Pant, Dr. Nabin Ranjit
and Dr. Prakash Ranjitkar presented certificates to the newly elected executive committee.
There was a also a strong presence of general members in the occassion.

An annual
general meeting was held at the Wadcross Social Room, Henderson,
Auckland on Saturday 19 June 2010. The programme started with a welcome
speech by the President, Mahendra Giri, and was followed by a report of
activities by Joint Secretory Shantwona Bhattu. The Treasurer, Dipendra
K.C., then presented the Financial Statement of the year 2009/10. Member
Shaurya Bhattarai then reported on the sporting activities that the
society organised for the last year. The President presented a vote of
thanks to the society members, and fellow executive members. At the end
of the programme there was a general Q and A and discussion session.

The program
started with welcome speech by the president, high lights of the day by
the vice president, and followed by the cultural program. A beautiful
dance was presented by Miss Ijma Pradhan, group song led by Indra
Pokharel and later a song of Naran Gopal was sang by Ajit Thapa. A poem
with title "Bhauntariyako Yatri" was presented by Ram Raj Oli. Then
Rajkumari, Jocilyn, together with Mrs Bimala Phokharel and another
friend sang a Nepali song. The special guests were presented with small
gifts, a token of New Zealand. Thereafter Mr Pradhananga and Mr Sharma
spoke a few words to high light New Year expressing an optimistic view
about Nepal. Then coupons for BINGO game was on sale while all lined up
for dinner. The pot-luck dinner was excellent in every way, taste,
texture and variety. There was plenty to feed an army. A bunch of ladies
put a very tiring and meticulous work to get the food stuff ready for
the table. While waiting for food all had good time to meet and greet,
talk to the special guests and take photos. After the dinner the special
guests had to leave for the airport. Then our BINGO game started. Dr
Amir Shrestha and Indra Pokharel took the responsibility of running the
game on their shoulders with the help of Preety and Master Ranjitkar. It
was interesting and enjoyable as has always been. Among others Ajit
bagged the FULL HOUSE prize of FOUR CRORES ($40.000000). The society
also was benefited by the game nine crores (90.000000). More energetic,
juniors and seniors alike, came to the dancing floor with modern Nepali
songs. It was difficult to hold ourselves back from not going to dancing
floor. Spectators also enjoyed watching and clapping. All these merry
making would have continued for long but we had to cut short to clean up
and leave the premises.

Nepal Society organised an event celebrating Tihar 2009 with Laxmi Puja,
Bhailo and Deusi with friends and families. Tihar Special Food
preparation was excellent and tasty. Members had a great relaxing moment
during meeting and greeting and later while eating food. The Celebration
was fulfilled by excellent dance performance by Nigya Pokhrel and
Swarnima Subedi. It was all prepared in a short notice which is very
appreciable.
The Secretary started the Programme by inviting the president for a
short introduction of the programme. Then followed by Laxmi Puja by all
present. There was quite a good crowd attending the function.

Nepal Society organised an event celebrating Dashain 2009. The event was
organised at the Fickling Center, Three Kings. A special cultural
program was organised for the celebration. A large number of families
and friends from Tipuke were also attending the function.

'Sport 200p'. Sports 2009 included 'Chess ChampionshipTable Tennis Championship
Badminton Championship and a Friendly Soccer
Match
All events involved more than 100 participants. Specila thanks goes to
the friends from Tipuke who came all the way from Tipuke for the games.
Participants also volunteered to involve in organizing and running the events and participation of parents & family
members also helped in the great success of the tournament.
NZNS would like
to thank all the participants and congratulate winners of all
tournaments. All the prize winners will be awarded with the prizes for
this tournament in next society's program.

The "Hand
over" ceremony was scheduled at 13:00 at Ferndale House 830 New
North Road. Newly elected team was introduced and greeted by the
Chairperson, Prof Pitambar S Dahal. Then the Chairperson highlighted the
activities of the last term and walk the new team through the papers,
files and other assets present in the office and handed over the
portfolio to the new President of NZNS, Dr. Mahendra K Giri. Then, Mrs
Achala Adhikari present the account balance sheet showing current
account of the NZNS and handed over to new Treasurer, Mr Dipendra KC.
There were some discussion and question answer session at the end.
The ceremony was then concluded with the vote of thanks from newly
elected president to the out going team.

Multicultural
Expo 2008 was held in Auckland on Sunday 3 August 2008 with the
participation of various ethnic organizations of New Zealand. It was
organized by the Auckland Multicultural Society Inc. New Zealand Nepal
Society also participated the program with a performance by Swarnima
Subedi (daughter of NZNS member Sweta/Subarna Subedi), Salina Dhungel
(daughter of NZNS member Priyangu/Suman Dhungel), Astha Kattel (daughter
of NZNS member Roshani Shrestha/Giriraj Kattel) and Nigya Pokhrel
(daughter of NZNS member Bimala/Indra Pokhrel). The Expo was
participated by Bulgarian, Czech, Indian, Polish, Bangladesh, Uruguay,
Japanese and others.

NZNS members
overwhelmingly participated the tree planting program on Saturday 19
July 2008 in Manukau with the support of Manukau City Council, Wai-Care
and Nestle. Altogether 600 native trees were planted on the day. The
native trees includes Ti Kouka (Cordyline australis), Karamu (Coprosma
robusta), Kohuhu (Pittosporum tenuifolium), Tarata (Pittosporum
eugeneoides), Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium), Kanuka (Kunzea
ericoides), harakeke (Phormium tenax), Mmahoe (Melicytus ramiflorus).
The planting site is adjacent to the last year plantation. The survival
and growth of the last year plantation is very encouraging.

An annual
general meeting was held at Jack Dickey Community Hall, Epsom, Auckland
on Saturday 14 June 2008 with overwhelming participation of the Society
members. The President of the Society, Manohar Shrestha, welcomed the
members followed by Secretaryʼs Report by the Secretary, Dr. Giri Raj
Kattel. The Treasurer, Achala Adhikary, presented the Financial
Statement of the year 2007/08. At the end of the meeting, Vice-president
Pitambar Sharma Dahal presented a vote of thanks.

Executive Committee made a courtesy meeting with Patron Lady June
Hillary on Saturday 26 April 2008. The committee handed over a letter
thanking for patronizing the society, condolence book kept on the day of
Memorial Service for Sir Ed and a condolence card signed by the NZNS
members during the memorial service. The letter also states that "We miss Sir Edmund Hillary a lot. Each of our
members and children vividly remember him. Many children had opportunity
to present various performances in front of him. His tireless support
and contribution will be unforgettable. We commit to follow and support
the programs initiated by Sir Ed".

held celebrating Nepali New Year 2065 at Shakespeare Regional Park on
Sunday 13 April 2065. There were about 150 participants including all
Bhutanese refugees who recently arrived. The NZNS members and guests

A Memorial Service for Sir Edmund Hillary was
organised on Tuesday 23 January 2008 at Mt. Roskill War Memorial Hall,
Mt. Roskill. Nepalis from Auckland and other parts of New Zealand
attended the service.
Gyan Chandra Acharya, Secretary of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, Nepal and Shankar D. Bairagi, Charge d' Affaires a.
i., Embassy of Nepal to Australia and New Zealand attended the service.
It was also attended by June Carlile (Sir Ed’s sister), Alistair Carlile
(Sir Ed’s nephew), Hilary Carlile (Sir Ed’s niece) and her husband Roger
Goodman along with other invited guests including representatives from
various organisations such as Counties Manukau Ethnic Council, Auckland
Region Ethnic Council, Shri Lankan Community, Dutch Community and
Kannada Community.

Messsage from society president over the demise
of our patron Sir Edmund Hillary on 11 Jan 2008 in Auckland, NZ.
Our beloved Patron Sir Edmund Hillary is no more with us. We extend our
heartfelt condolences to Lady June Mulgrew and family.
Sir Hillary is a true friend and citizen of Nepal. He not only conquered
the Mt. Everest but also the hearts of all Nepalis. Every Nepalis
of New Zealand vividly remembers his close association with the Society.
We miss him a lot. We never forget what he said “Nepal is in my
heart”.
We humbly pray for the eternal peace to departed soul.

Happy New Year to all fellow members:
Wishing you a prosperous and peaceful happy New Year 2008!!
On this occasion, we commit for high participation, cooperation and
solidarity among our community along with others for a common cause for
a contribution of peace building in Nepal.
NZNS has a successful year in 2007 with various social, cultural and
environmental activities, notably Nepal Day celebration. NZNS member’s
participation and cooperation is highly laudable for the overall success
of various programs. Special thanks go to Lottery Grants Board, Lion
Foundation, Ministry of Culture and Heritage, Ministry of Internal
Affairs, WADCOSS, Auckland City Council and Mt. Wellington Charitable
Trust for their support. NZNS has new office at Ferndale House, Auckland
which is a mile stone we achieved for a cost effective office
operation.
We still have to do a lot. Ideas, suggestions and supports are highly
welcome for the successful institutionalisation of NZNS.
