Summits for Ed
12 April 2008, Greenlane, Auckland.
The Society members had participated the tribute tour for Sir Edmund Hillary at One Tree Hill, Auckland on Saturday 12 April 2008 which is the chance for ordinary Kiwis to help create a memorial to our greatest hero and to inspire our young people.
At the end of the walk Manohar Shrestha, President of the Society, handed over a
stone from Nepal carved with a symbol of sun indicating light and eternity.
During the program, NZNS members Dr. Mahendra Giri and Shreejana Baisyet also
made tribute to Sir Ed.
The tribute tour is being organised by the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits
Centre, which provides programmes for outdoor education. Sir Ed was the centre’s
founding patron from its inception 35 years ago.
The Summits for Ed tribute tour was started on Tuesday March 25 2008 in Bluff
and visit more than 30 towns and cities around New Zealand before finishing at
Cape Reinga on Saturday April 19 2008, at an event being attended by Lady
